Preamble

An Act to amend the Animals Act, No. 29 of 1958

BE it enacted by the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist

Republic of Sri Lanka as follows: -

Short title

1.

1. This Act may be cited as the Animals (Amendment)

Act, No. 19 of 2026.

Amendment of section 38 of Act, No. 29 of 1958

2. Section 38 of the Animals Act, No. 29 of 1958 is hereby amended by the substitution for the definition of the term “animal”, of the following new definition:-

“ “animal” means a neat cattle (ela haraka) or a buffalo and includes –

(a)

in Part II, a goat, pig or sheep; and

(b)

in Part IV, a sheep, goat, pig or poultry;”.

In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
