8. Effect of order to be explained to the offender

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

Before entering a community based correction order in respect of an offender, the court shall explain to the offender in language that may readily be understood by the offender -

(a)

the purpose and effect of the proposed order;

(b)

the consequences that will follow if the offender fails without reasonable cause to comply with the conditions of the proposed order; and

(c)

the manner in which the proposed order may be varied.
