s 1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Judicature

(Amendment) Act, No.27 of 1999.

s 2Amendment of section 48 of Act No.2 of 1978

Section 48 of the Judicature Act, No. 2 of 1978, is hereby amended, by the repeal of the proviso to that section and the substitution therefor, of the following proviso :-

“Provided that where any criminal prosecution, proceeding or matter (except on an inquiry preliminary to committal for trial) is continued before the successor of any such judge, the accused may demand that the witnesses be resummoned and reheard.”.

In the event of any inconsistency between the

Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala Text shall prevail
