3. General objects of the Corporation

(1)

The general objects for which the Corporation is constituted are hereby declared to be:—

(a)

to provide aid and assistance to needy students to further their education;

(b)

to collect, print, publish and distribute books, journals and magazines;

(c)

to assist the relevent authorities with the consent of such authorities—

(i)

to execute randoad development and housing programmes;

(ii)

to construct and develop hospitals, aesthetic educational centers, schools and community centers;

(iii)

to establish and maintain libraries and reading centers;

(iv)

to formulate and implement community welfare, educational and social development projects for the welfare of the Sri Lankans;

(v)

to provide facilities for the improvement of educational, health, cultural and agricultural sectors in Sri Lanka;

(vi)

to promote the various forms of traditional, indigenuos and hereditary knowledge and to assist to establish institutions with a view of preserving such knowledge for future generations;

(vii)

to formulate and maintain projects for the protection and conservation of the environment; and

(d)

to liaise with other local or foreign institutions having similar objects.

(2)

In the implementation of the objects specified in subsection (1) the Corporation shall ensure that such implementation shall be carried out without any distinction based on race, religion, language, caste, sex, political opinion, place of birth or any one of such grounds.
