s 1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Merchant Shipping

(Change of Designation) Act, No. 3 of 2006.

s 2Amendment to section 3 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 52 of 1971

With effect from the date of commencement of this

Act, in every context in which “Director of Merchant shipping” appears in—

(a)

subsection (1) of section 3 and elsewhere in the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 52 of 1971

and in any other written law; and

(b)

any notice, communication, or other document issued, made, required or authorized by or under any written law, there shall be substituted for the words “Director of Merchant

Shipping”, the words “Director-General of Merchant

Shipping”.

s 3Sinhala text to prevail in case of inconsistency

In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
