17. Insertion of new section 24A in the principal enactment

The following new section is hereby inserted immediately after section 24 of the principal enactment and shall have effect as section 24A of that enactment :—

24A. A person who —

(a)

contravenes the provisions of sections 21,

22, 23 and 24 of this Act ; or

(b)

(i) fraudulently uses or allows any other person to use any identification plate, or

(ii)

imitates, alters, mutilates, defaces or destroys any identification plate, shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not less than fifteen thousand rupees and not exceeding twenty five thousand rupees and on a second or subsequent conviction to a fine not less than thirty thousand rupees and not exceeding fifty thousand rupees or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or to both such fine and imprisonment.”.
