Parliamentary Pensions (Repeal) Act 2026

s 1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Pensions

(Repeal) Act, No. 5 of 2026.

s 2Repeal of the Law, No. 1 of 1977

The Parliamentary Pensions Law, No. 1 of 1977 is hereby repealed.

s 3Avoidance of doubt

For the avoidance of doubt, it is hereby declared that any person who is entitled to receive a pension in terms of the provisions of the Parliamentary Pensions Law, No. 1 of 1977, section 9 of Act, No. 1 of 1982 or section 9 of Act,

No. 47 of 1990, and is in receipt of a pension under the aforesaid provisions preceding the date of commencement of this Act, shall, on and after the date of commencement of this Act, cease to receive such pension.

s 4Sinhala text to prevail in case of inconsistency

In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
