Ranaviru Seva Authority (Amendment) Act 2009

s 1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Ranaviru Seva Authority

(Amendment) Act, No. 7 of 2009.

s 2Amendment of section 3 of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Act, No. 54 of 1999

Section 3 of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Act, No. 54

of 1999 is hereby amended as follows :—

(1)

by the repeal of subsection (1) of that section and the substitution therefor of the following :—

“(1) The administration and management of the affairs of the Authority shall be vested in a Board of

Management (hereinafter referred to as the “Board”)

consisting of the following members appointed by the President :—

(a)

the Secretary to the Ministry of the Minister in charge of the subject of Defence or a representative of that Ministry, nominated by such Secretary;

(b)

the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka

Army;

(c)

the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka

Navy;

(d)

the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air

Force;

(e)

Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Welfare;

(f)

a representative from the General Treasury, nominated by the Minister in charge of the subject of Finance; and

(g)

five other members appointed by the President.

(A member appointed under this paragraph is hereinafter referred to as an “appointed member”).

(1A)

The Chairpersons of Seva Vanitha Units that are functioning under the Ministry of Defence could participate at meetings of the Board of Management of the Ranaviru Seva Authority as observers.”.

(2)

by the repal of subsection (2) of that section and the substitution therefor of the following :—

“(2) Two of the members, appointed under paragraph (g) of subsection (1) shall be appointed by the President as the Chairman and the Vice

Chairman of the Board respectively.”.

s 3Sinhala text to prevail in case of inconsistency

In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
