12. Appointment of the Director of the Institute

(1)

The Minister shall appoint to the staff of the

Institute, a Director of the Institute (hereinafter referred to as the “Director”) who shall be the Chief Executive officer of the Institute.

(2)

The Director appointed under subsection (1) shall, unless he vacates office earlier by death, resignation or removal, hold office for a period of five years from the date of his appointment.

(3)

The Director shall exercise, and discharge such powers and functions as may be delegated to him by the

Council.

(4)

The Minister may remove from office the Director appointed under subsection (1).

(5)

The Director shall be paid such remuneration as may be determined by the Minister with the concurrence of the Minister in charge of the Subject of Finance.

(6)

The Office of the Director shall become vacant upon the death, removal from office under subsection (4) or resignation by letter in that behalf addressed to the Minister, by the holder of that office.

(7)

Unless removed from office under subsection (4)

any person who holds office as Director shall be eligible for reappointment as Director.

(8)

If any vacancy occurs in the office of the Director , the Minister may appoint a member of the Council to perform the duties of the Director until an appointment is made under subsection (1).
