27. Interpretation

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires—

“Minister” means the Minister assigned the subject of Sustainable Development;

“project approving agencies” includes ministries, departments, provincial councils, provincial ministries and departments and local authorities and all other Government and Provincial

Council Agencies;

“sustainability” means the capacity of a thing, action, activity or process to be maintained indefinitely; and

“sustainable development” means development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
