s 1Short title
This Act may be cited as the Sri Lanka Transport Board
(Amendment) Act, No. 39 of 2008.
s 2Insertion of new section in the Act, No. 27 of 2005
The Sri Lanka Transport Board Act, No. 27 of 2005
(hereinafter referred to as the “principal enactment”) is hereby amended by the insertion immediately after section 1 thereof of the following new section which shall have effect as section 1A of that enactment :—
1A. (1) There shall be established a Board which shall be called the “Sri Lanka Transport
Board” (hereinafter referred to as the “Board”).
The Board shall by the name assigned to it by subsection (1), be a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal and may sue and be sued in such name.”.
s 3Amendment of section 2 of the principal enactment
Section 2 of the principal enactment is hereby amended as follows :—
in subsection 1 of that section, by the substitution for the words, “There shall be established a Board which shall be called the “Sri Lanka Transport Board”
(hereinafter referred to as the “Board”) and which shall consist of the following members :– “of the words,” The Board shall consist of-”;
“Establishment of Sri Lanka
Transport
Board.
by the substitution for paragraph (iii) of that section, the following new paragraph :—
“(iii)
an officer not below the rank of Additional
Secretary of the Ministry of the Minister in charge of the subject of Finance or the Director-General of the Treasury nominated by the
Secretary to the Treasury.”; and
by the substitution for the marginal note to that section of the following :—
“Composition of the Board”.
s 4Retrospective effect
The amendment made to the principal enactment by section 1A of this Act, shall for all purposes be deemed to have come into force on the date of coming into operation of the principal enactment.
s 5Sinhala text to prevail in case of inconsistency
In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
