Workmen’s Compensation (Amendment) Act 2005

s 1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Workmen’s

Compensation (Amendment) Act, No. 10 of 2005.

s 2Amendment of section 6 of Chapter 139

Section 6 of the Workmen’s Compensation Ordinance

(Chapter 139) (hereinafter referred to as the “principal enactment”) is hereby amended in paragraph (D) of subsection (1) of that section by the omission of the words

“after the expiry of a waiting period of three days,”.

s 3Amendment of section 11 of the principal enactment

Section 11 of the principal enactment is hereby amended as follows :—

s 4Amendment of section 12 of the principal enactment

Section 12 of the principal enactment is hereby amended in subsection (1) of that section, by the repeal of paragraphs (i), (ii), (iii) of that subsection and the substitution therefor of the following paragraphs :—

“(i)

an amount not exceeding ten thousand rupees, where the compensation does not exceed two hundred thousand rupees ;

(ii)

an amount not exceeding fifteen thousand rupees, where the compensation does not exceed three hundred thousand rupees,”;

Schedule IV of the principal enactment is hereby repealed and the following Schedule substituted therefor :—

COMPENSATION PAYABLE IN CERTAIN CASES

AMOUNT OF COMPENSATION

Sinhala text to prevail in case of inconsistency.

Replacement of

Schedule IV in the principal enactment.

In the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil texts of this Act, the Sinhala text shall prevail.
