96. Penalty

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

Any person who is guilty of an offence under this Act or under any regulation made thereunder shall on conviction after trial before a Magistrate and except as otherwise provided in this Act, be liable to a fine not exceeding five thousand rupees or to imprisonment of either description for a term not exceeding six months or to both such fine and imprisonment.
