18. Offences and penalties

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

Any person who acts in contravention of any provision of this Act or any regulations made thereunder commits an offence and shall, on conviction after a summary trial before a Magistrate, be liable to a fine not exceeding ten million rupees or to imprisonment of either description for a period not exceeding two years or to both such fine and imprisonment.
