1. Short title, date of operation and application

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

(1)

This Act may be cited as the Public Utilities

Commission of Sri Lanka Act, No. 35 of 2002 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may appoint by

Order published in the Gazette. Different dates may be appointed in respect of different provisions of this Act.

(2)

This Act shall apply to the public utilities industries set out in the Schedule to this Act, the regulation of which is vested in or assigned to the Public Utilities Commission of

Sri Lanka.

(3)

Parliament may by resolution amend the Schedule to the Act by adding thereto any utilities industry or removing therefrom any pubic utilities industry, where such addition or removal is considered necessary or expedient in the public interest.
