62. Prohibition on nuclear weapons and other explosive devices

(1)

Nuclear weapons and other nuclear explosive devices, the direct or indirect control over such weapons or devices, the manufacture or acquisition of such weapons or devices and participating in, seeking, giving or receiving any assistance in their manufacture, is prohibited in

Sri Lanka.

(2)

No person shall :-

(a)

carry out research in, develop, acquire, manufacture, possess, store, transport, transfer or use, nuclear weapons;

(b)

carry out research in, develop, acquire, manufacture, possess, store, transport, transfer or use, nuclear material for the purpose of making nuclear weapons;

(c)

participate in, assist in or finance any of the activities specified in paragraph (a) or (b) above.

(3)

Any person who acts in contravention of subsection (1) or subsection (2) shall commit an offence and on conviction by the High Court, be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twenty years.
