20. Disclosure of information

Any person who -
having received any information provided for the purpose of commencing or conducting an investigation or inquiry into an alleged offence;
having gathered any information in the course of an investigation or inquiry into an alleged offence;
or
having received any information referred to in paragraph (a) or (b) from another person, provides, issues or gives to a third person, publishes or otherwise disseminates any such information or part thereof, particularly as regards the identity of a victim of crime, witness or informant and thereby places the life of such victim of crime, witness or informant in danger, commits an offence under this Act, and shall, on conviction by the High Court, be liable to a fine not exceeding three hundred thousand rupees or to imprisonment of either description for a period not exceeding five years or to both such fine and imprisonment:
Provided however, the provision, issuance or giving out, publishing or dissemination of information in good faith and in accordance with or in compliance with-
any provision or procedure established by law;
an order made by a court; or
a directive issued by a person duly authorised to do so by or under any written law, shall not be an offence.
