21. Providing false information

Any person who, with the intention of obtaining any assistance or protection from the Authority, the Police including the Protection Division, a court or Commission, provides any information knowing or having reasonable grounds to believe that such information is false, commits an offence under this Act and shall, on conviction by the

High Court, be liable to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand rupees or to imprisonment of either description for a period not exceeding six years or to both such fine and imprisonment.
