20. Penalty

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

Any person who commits an offence falling under section 14, subsection (2) of section 16, section 17 and section 18 of this Act, shall after trial by a Magistrate be punished with a fine not exceeding rupees five thousand or imprisonment of either description for a period not exceeding eighteen months, or to both.
