26. Compounding of offences

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

The Authority may, having regard to the circumstances in which an offence was committed, compound any offence under this Act, for a sum not exceeding one third of the maximum fine imposable for such offence, and where any prosecution has been entered against any such offender, the Authority shall compound such offence at anytime before judgment is entered after having obtained the consent of court.
