81. Interpretation and repeal

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

(1)

Every reference in the principal enactment to

“elections officer of the district” and “elections officer”

shall, after the commencement of this Act, be read and construed as a reference to the district returning officer appointed under subsection (1) of section 4 of the principal enactment, for the district within which the relevant electoral area is situated.

(2)

Section 34 of the Local Authorities Elections

(Amendment) Act, No. 24 of 1987 is hereby repealed.
