Part XVI

445. False or misleading statement

Official English translation. Where it differs from the Sinhala or Tamil text, the Act itself says which text prevails.

Any person who supplies any information, required by or for the purposes of this Act, where –

(a)

the information is false or misleading in a material particular; and

(b)

the person either –

(i)

knows that the information is false or misleading in a material particular and discloses the same; or

(ii)

omits to disclose any fact or matter, knowing that the omission makes the information false or misleading in a material particular,

Rescue, Rehabilitation and Insolvency commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding three million rupees or to rigorous imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years or to both such fine and imprisonment.
